BLUEBERRY BLISS JUST GOT BETTER!
This is one of my favourite flavour combinations. The richness of the almond butter calms the tart sweetness of the blueberries. King of antioxidant foods (the blueberry of course) is low in calories and cholesterol. But, it is high in vitamins, including those that prevent DNA damage. One tasty and convenient drink contains all your morning fiber, protein and nutrient requirements!
This smoothie is not only good for you, but is wholesome enough to keep you full and satisfied for hours.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS
Blueberries are packed with vitamins C, K and potassium. The absence of cholesterol and prevalence of fiber also aids in heart health. But, perhaps most impressively, blueberries are the king of antioxidant foods. These protect your DNA from damage. Almond butter is not only rich in antioxidants and magnesium, but it’s packed with protein and healthy fats which will keep you feeling fuller for longer.
THE FLAVOURS, TEXTURES & RECIPE
The apple and banana act as a base (as they do in most smoothie recipes). The creaminess of the almond butter and coconut milk calm the sweet and sour notes of the blueberry.
Add honey, maple syrup or agave for sweetness. To achieve your desired smoothie consistency, add either water or ice. To counteract the denseness, I like to add a lot of ice or frozen berries and bananas (as opposed to fresh). This results in a refreshing, cool and thirst quenching drink.
Add extra coconut milk or water if the blender gets stuck. Once all ingredients are blitzed, a beautiful purple liquid is produced (with darker specks from the blueberries and almonds).
THE FINAL FLOURISH
Pour the mixture into a glass or flask and decorate with shavings of almonds and fresh blueberries. To turn it into a smoothie bowl, simply pour the mixture into your favourite dish. Decorate with a variety of toppings to add texture to your liquid breakfast.
