Zested Text

“To get zested is to embrace a diet, and a way of life, that looks to incorporate as many plant-based whole foods as possible. Feel good about what you eat and add the zest back into your food by enjoying it the way nature intended.”

GO GET ZESTED

The Zest Kitchen focuses on a whole foods plant-based diet. This involves using fresh ingredients and making things ‘from scratch’ where possible. That’s why we have a whole category dedicated to ‘basics’ like homemade bread, vegan mince / ground ‘beef’, mayo and cream ‘cheese’, which are things that would normally be purchased separately and form part of a recipe. Even if vegan, these items are often heavily processed and thus, go against our ethos of putting the life (and zest) back into your food.

Our zested categories not only emphasise whole foods, but look more specifically at the health benefits of certain ingredients and products.

REVIEWS & NUTRITION

Go get zested and find our latest reviews, thought pieces and nutrition-based articles. You can find ingredient / product reviews, such as non-dairy milk comparisons and store-bought burger ratings. While we do promote all things homemade, we do recognise the need to occasionally buy ingredients which may exhibit varying levels of processing. Hence, we review these items with a special focus on how healthy (or unhealthy) they are, as well as how processed they are. Where possible, we provide recipes to make the item(s) in question.

We try to replicate the tastes and textures that we know and love (like the creaminess of milk or the richness of meat) in the healthiest and simplest way we can.

The Zest Kitchen also investigates the nutrition of certain ingredients, highlighting its health benefits and uses in the kitchen. Whether it’s the ‘best of beets’ or ‘superfood soy’, we encourage you to try new things and new recipes involving underutilised plant-based gems.
